NBA's Virtual Experience

The
Coronavirus has postponed many events for the year 2020, though the NBA wanted to come up with a fun and creative way to include their fans within the empty stadiums.

The National Basketball Association (NBA) partnered up with Microsoft Teams’ new Together Mode to allow basketball fans to experience the game without ever leaving their homes. Virtual fans are broadcast on 17-foot-tall LED screens around the court to replace the empty seats

In order to be considered for a seat on the big screen, fans can sign up through their team’s websites. Though depending on the team, the seats are reserved for season ticket holders. The rules can change at any time of the season.

The league also wanted to mask out the silence from the missing fans, so the NBA developed a “Tap to Cheer” feature or allow the viewers to post their team’s hashtag to increase the noise in the stadium. The audio is a combination of previous games and music.

Sports teams around the world have started to adopt this new technology in order to provide a virtual experience for their fans.
